1- ALL-WEATHER RATTAN FURNITURE

All-weather rattan furniture is made from durable synthetic rattan on a lightweight, rust-proof, aluminium frame. Most ranges come with polyester covered, water-resistant cushions.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

All-Weather Rattan is resilient in all weathers and can bestored outside all year round. In order to prolong the life of your furniture, we recommend the following maintenance and care.

Vacuum covers regularly using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner, to remove grit that can cause abrasion. Never brush fabric with a stiff fibre or metal brush as this can damage the fibres.

Reverse cushions regularly to ensure even wear.

Protect fabrics from the sun when not in use as ultraviolet light can cause the fibres to degenerate and colours to fade.

Fabrics are not stain resistant, so spills may stain.

We recommend covering your furniture in the winter months to prevent a build up of dirt and debris in the weave of the frame.

Store cushions when not in use: the covers won’t be damaged by rain but the fillings may take a little while to dry out. Ensure that covers are completely dry before storing to avoid mildew forming.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

  • The frame can be washed down with a hose to remove dirt and debris.
  • Cushion covers are not suitable for machine washing or dry cleaning; they should be cleaned by hand. Avoid the use of soap or detergents, cleaning fluids or insecticides as they may damage the finish. It is important to pre-test for colourfastness and fabric compatibility in a hidden area before using any product.
  • After regular cleaning, fabrics may lose their water-resistant finish. This can be reapplied using a proprietary brand of fabric protector recommended for that fabric.
  • If spills occur, blot immediately with a dry cotton cloth (if you use paper towels make sure that they are white to avoid any colour transferring to the fabric). Avoid soaking the fabric as this may reduce the efficacy of the water-resistant finish. If blotting with a dry cloth doesn’t quite finish the job and the stain is still visible, professional cleaning is advised.
  • Caution those wearing clothing with transferable dyes, such as blue jeans, that the dye could transfer onto light furniture.

Following the guidelines above will ensure product performance is maintained. Ma Maison Algarve is not to be held responsible for defects caused by the misuse of your product.

2- BEDS & MATTRESSES

Ma Maison Algarve furniture is craftsman made with great care and attention to produce distinctive pieces that will bring pleasure for years to come.

All Ma Maison Algarve bed ranges are made from a combination of modern materials, with kiln dried solid hardwoods, and high quality fabrics. Each item of furniture is hand finished and uses traditional bed/mattress making techniques to ensure strength and longevity.

With careful use these finely made pieces will give many years of satisfaction.

NATURAL FABRICS

Our mattress and divan bases are covered with cotton ticking, which is a 100% natural fabric. Slubs and cotton seeds are a natural feature of the natural fabrics and will not affect the life of the fabric. On all fabrics, pilling can occasionally occur during use, this does not indicate premature wear or an inferior fabric and is normal.

SUNLIGHT AND HEAT

Furniture should never be placed too close to excessive heat, for example, standing it in front of a radiator. This heat could cause cracking in the finish or the wood itself, and could dry the timber out and cause excess movement. Close contact to heat can also degrade fabrics at a faster rate than is normal. A minimum of 30cm clearance from heat sources is advised.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

In order to prolong the life of your beds, Ma Maison Algarve recommends the following maintenance and care:

On removing sheets etc. for laundering, it is advised to vacuum the mattress and base at the same time to remove grit that can cause abrasion and therefore premature wear. Professional cleaning is the best way to make a slightly soiled mattress look new again, but weekly vacuuming will make professional cleaning a less frequent event.

Never brush any fabric with a stiff fibre or metal brush, since they’re destructive to the fibres. Instead, use your vacuum attachments like the upholstery brush or the attachment for dusting draperies and furniture. The latter brush has longer bristles and is less abrasive to your upholstery fabric. It may be your best option if your fabric deserves a softer brushing.

Reverse the mattress each month after vacuuming. This ensures even wear across the surfaces of the mattress.

Protect fabrics from the sun. Fabrics should not be placed in direct sunlight because the ultraviolet light will cause the fibres to degenerate and colours to fade. Occasionally dyes can fade from impurities in the air as well, but protection from the sun is a good way to prevent premature loss of colour and fabric strength.

It is recommended that the mattress is not folded or rolled as this will damage the vital edge support and may buckle or twist the spring unit.

It is advisable not to use the edge of the mattress as a seat, as the localized pressure on the interior may eventually change it’s shape and comfort.

All mattresses will show evidence of body decompression after use, and this is a normal feature of all mattresses and not a fault.

Sprung mattresses will compress where springs mould to body shape and weight.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

As a general rule, when a spill occurs, it is important to clean the fabric immediately. The longer a spot remains, the harder it is to remove. It may even become permanent.

Never apply cleaning solutions to visible areas of your upholstery fabric without first testing on areas that are not visible. It is important to pre-test for fabric compatibility.

Blot, don’t rub. If the spill is still fresh, use a clean, dry and very absorbent 100% cotton cloth. Should you have to use paper towels to blot out spills, be sure the paper towel (or cloth) is white, as colours in the towel may, when applied to a wet surface, fade onto the upholstery.

Colour from one fabric can rub off onto another fabric, even when dry — a process known in the industry as crocking.

If blotting with a dry cloth doesn’t quite finish the job and the stain is still visible, professional cleaning is advised. If your furniture becomes stained or suffers other damage we recommend professional help is sought to restore it.

Following the guidelines above will ensure product performance is maintained. Ma Maison Algarve is not to be held responsible for defects caused by the misuse of your product.

3- CUSHIONS & PADS

Our cushions and pads are a range of fibre, feather and foam cores. All pads, irrespective of their fillings, require care and attention to ensure long life.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

To prolong the life of your cushions, Ma Maison Algarve recommends the following maintenance and care:

Reverse and rotate cushions each week after vacuuming. If possible re-arrange the furniture occasionally to ensure even wear of cushions and other areas.

Cushions and pillows filled with down or similar filling material should be hand-fluffed and reversed regularly to preserve their original softness and resilience. Non-reversible cushions should have the pad turned inside the cover.

Fibre-filled pads should be regularly plumped to prevent fibres from binding, which causes cushions to flatten or lose shape.

Those products with a foam core will have a firmer feel initially but will lose some of their original hardness in the first few weeks. This is normal and will not affect performance.

Following the guidelines above will ensure product performance is maintained. Ma Maison Algarve is not to be held responsible for defects caused by the misuse of your product.

4- LEATHER FURNITURE

Leather is naturally hard-wearing and with a little bit of love and care, it can last generations.

4-a) Leather

MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

In order to prolong the life of your leather furniture, Ma Maison Algarve suggests the following maintenance and care:

Do not place your leather too close to a heat source, as it may cause it to crack and age prematurely.

Protect your leather from direct sunlight, as it may cause it to discolour or crack.

Sharp objects such as cutlery and pens can score the surface of leather.

Avoid sitting on the arms, back or very edge of your leather furniture as this may cause distortion and/or damage.

Caution those wearing clothing with transferable dyes, such as blue jeans, that the dye could transfer onto light coloured leather furniture.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Always test cleaning methods on a hidden area first, to make sure you achieve the desired result.

Spills should be removed immediately with a soft, clean, dye-free cloth. Make sure that the cloth is dry, as water can cause the leather to discolour.

Be gentle with your leather furniture. Never use vinegar, lemon juice or other cleaning products.

Dust and vacuum your leather furniture regularly.

Never use soap or soak the leather with water, as this can cause serious damage to the surface of the leather.

Do not use furniture polish, oils, varnish or ammonia water.

4- b) Recycled Leather

The fabric is made up of two materials: the bottom layer consists of recycled real leather which ensures the natural and unique appearance. The leather is protected by a polyester covering layer which prevents unevenness and which makes it a solid combination fabric.

The leather can not be treated with grease for leather.
You can maintain recycled leather as follows:
-with a damp cloth, you can clean the fabric;
-in case of stains, you can use a neutral soap solution;
-to remove the stain: after removing the stain, clean the fabric with a damp cloth.

5- LLOYD LOOM FURNITURE

INDOOR

Our Indoor Lloyd Loom furniture can easily be maintained with a moist towel and some natural soap. Each Lloyd Loom product is available with nylon or felt gliders in order to protect the feet and all type of floor surfaces. Using the correct gliders will prevent any damage due to contact between the feet and the ground.

OUTDOOR

A quick wash with a non-foaming mild detergent every three months, will do the trick. A soft nylon brush or a low pressure air hose can also be used to clean between the weaving.

6- UPHOLSTERY

LOOSE COVERS

Loose covers can be rejuvenated by dry-cleaning, which will also help prevent premature wear.

All loose covers have a 3% tolerance on shrinkage during use and cleaning.

Regular re-dressing may be required, as loose covers can shift position during use.

In some cases loose covers are delivered to you in a separate package, not on the furniture. In these instances some creasing may be evident when the covers are first fitted. These creases will drop out naturally after a period of time or, if you prefer, a light steaming will speed up the process.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

We recommend the following maintenance and care for your upholstered furniture. Please note however, that because of the variety of fabrics and fibre combinations used, there is no guarantee that these methods will be completely successful. If in doubt, we recommend professional upholstery cleaning.

Vacuum your furniture using the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner, to remove dust and grit that may cause abrasion and premature wear. Professional cleaning is the best way to make a slightly soiled sofa look new again, but weekly vacuuming will make professional cleaning a less frequent event.

Never brush any fabric with a stiff fibre or metal brush, which may damage the fibres.

Caution those wearing clothing with transferable dyes, such as blue jeans, that the dye could transfer onto light coloured furniture.

Avoid sitting on the arms, back or very edge of your furniture as this may cause distortion and/or damage.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

It is advisable to avoid liquids near upholstered fabrics to avoid the risk of spills.

If spills occur it is important to clean the fabric immediately to avoid the stain becoming permanent. Ideally use a clean, dry, absorbent cotton cloth to blot up the spill (if you use paper towels make sure that they are white to avoid any colour transferring on to the fabric). If blotting doesn’t quite finish the job and the stain is still visible, professional cleaning is advised.

Never apply cleaning solutions to visible areas of your upholstery fabric without first testing on hidden areas. It is important to pre-test for colourfastness and fabric compatibility.

The repeated use of a silicone-based polish is not recommended as this will lead to the build up of a silicone film, which will alter the appearance of the piece.

Some furniture polishes are unsuitable for use on painted and High Gloss surfaces and can degrade the paint. Always ensure that polishes are suitable for end use.

Never use abrasive cleaning agents or cloths (e.g. linen cloths, paper towels etc) on High Gloss surfaces as these will scratch.

Glass or mirrored panels should be cleaned using a non-solvent based glass cleaner and a soft cloth, carefully avoiding contact with wooden or painted sections.

If your furniture becomes stained, scratched or chipped, or suffers other damage we recommend professional help is sought to restore it.

Following the guidelines above will ensure product performance is maintained. Ma Maison Algarve is not to be held responsible for defects caused by the misuse of your product.

7- WOOD FURNITURE

MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

In order to prolong the life of wooden furniture, Ma Maison Algarve recommends the following maintenance and care:

If your wood furniture has a natural finish (e.g. Oak, untreated Elm), use a good quality natural beeswax polish.  Every three months polish along the grain and then buff with a clean duster.

If your wood furniture has an oiled finish you will need to ‘feed’ it with linseed oil every 3-4 months.  Make sure you safely dispose the cloths used.

Please, note that these maintenance products will always darken a bit the wood.

Wooden products change colour with exposure to both natural and electric light.  Rotate any ornaments to avoid patches of colour where an object has stood.  Leave dining tables fully extended where possible, or expose the leaves to light so there are no obvious colour differences between them and the rest of the table.

Wooden furniture is not waterproof, heat resistant or immune to chemicals. Do not put hot dishes or cups on any surface, always use an insulated mat for protection. Don’t use a protective cover containing rubber derivatives – it could react with the finish.

Sharp objects such as cutlery and pens can score the surface of your furniture, as can crockery being dragged across the top.

Leaning backwards on two legs of a chair will weaken joints

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Spills should be removed immediately using a clean cloth.

Be gentle with your furniture. Never use vinegar, lemon juice or other cleaners containing acids, scouring powders or cream cleaners, which may contain abrasives.

Some furniture polishes are unsuitable for use on certain surfaces and can degrade the protective layer. Always ensure that polishes are suitable for end use.

The repeated use of a silicone-based polish is not recommended as this will lead to the build up of a silicone film, which will alter the appearance of the piece.

If your furniture becomes stained, scratched or chipped, or suffers other damage we recommend professional help is sought to restore it.

Caution those wearing clothing with transferable dyes, such as blue jeans, that the dye could transfer onto light furniture.

Following the guidelines above will ensure product performance is maintained. Ma Maison Algarve is not to be held responsible for defects caused by the misuse of your product.
