Description
The water hyacinth is a free-floating plant that inhabits warm waters of tropical and sub-tropical regions. What sets the water hyacinth apart from other floating plants is its magnificent flower on a long stem: blue-to-purple in colour, usually with a yellow teardrop patch on the top petal. The flower stems are used as a raw material for weaving. They are sun-dried for up to eight days and then compressed. For framed products like these Rota lamps, frames are used and a flat weave is applied.
